Iced Drinks at Starbucks are a fan favorite for quite a while now. And, rightfully so, because what else to drink when the summer boils your armpit? And, not to say there’s anything bad with room-temp plain coffee, but their iced repertoire is what captures the eye. And, it just got even better.
Towards the end of August 2022, Starbucks introduced the “cold foam”! Yup, now you can order an iced drink like the cold brew coffee, the chocolate cream cold brew, or the salted caramel cream cold brew (a personal favorite, and have foam on it.
But, what is in the “cold foam”?
According to info disclosed by Starbucks, the secret is in the tools they use. Now, usually, you can order foam on any of the hot drinks there because it is steamed milk. It needs to be hot to become foam, so it fits only on cold or lukewarm drinks.
But, for cold foam, Starbucks technicians say they use blended nonfat milk. They make it with special blenders that work at it while it becomes creamy and consistent.
What does it taste like?
The first reviews were all over the web immediately and people are overjoyed. Blending nonfat milk for a prolonged period makes the texture incredibly good and it gives off a sweet flavor. The creamy texture (but without the cream) is consistent enough to stay afloat your brew as long as milk foam would.
However, to achieve the absolute highest results, Starbucks serves iced drinks with cold foam in special containers. They do not have the lid with the straw that immediately reduces the level of foam otherwise.
Will it be available in every Starbucks shop?
They are adding the cold foam option to menus all over America and Europe right now. According to reliable coffee enthusiasts around the globe, the first two options available are:
- Cold Foam Starbucks Blonde Iced Cappuccino
- Cold Foam Cascara Cold Brew (includes the Nitro cold brew if available)
Also, in some Starbucks venues, you can just ask for cold foam on any iced drink you order. It is a shame that the Summer’s over and the Fall probably won’t last that much. So, these few months are probably the last chance to try it before the next set of hot days hit us.
